There is one characteristic that a manager can not acquire, but must bring to the task, and that is character. Management is a practice, not a science. Management is not knowledge, but performance. A managers number one resource: People. Managers must develop their people, and themselves.

When you have engaged employees, they give discretionary effort. They’re going to sell harder. Their service is going to be better. Their productivity is going to be higher. That means customers are also going to be engaged and will be happier. The more satisfied your customers are, the more they are going to buy and the more they are going to refer you. As sales rise, profits rise, inevitably your stock price or value in the company is going to rise.

Many companies are looking for that silver bullet to help them change. Unfortunately, that silver bullet doesn't exist. It takes hard work from every person within the organization to affect positive change. Unfortunately, it only takes one person within an organization to affect negative change, and this kind of change can destroy what may have taken days, weeks, months, years and in some cases even decades to build.
